Your Tomorrow Will Be My Song - Hybrid/Digital/Short Film
After years of living in Chicago, a Quechua couple envisions their return to their homeland in the Andes. Memory, tradition, and tenderness converge as they reenact a conversation in which they share their hopes for what awaits them.
Director's Statement:
Your Tomorrow Will Be My Song is a portrait of my friends Suni and Alondra, an indigenous Quechua couple living in the United States. Centered around the reenactment of an intimate conversation, the piece acknowledges the feelings of longing experienced by those who leave their land, as well as the excitement that accompanies the possibility of returning home. With this film, I reflect on the poetics embedded in ephemeral moments and spaces, and how these transcend through the dreams and hopes of the immigrant experience. Moreover, by having people perform their lives on their own terms, I invite audiences to question notions of representation and “the real”, especially when it pertains to marginalized groups.
