Hi, My name is Fernando Saldivia Yáñez. I am a filmmaker from Puerto Williams, Chile, currently pursuing an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
My practice focuses on using poetic documentary films to portray subjects threatened by global change such as wildlife and local artisan traditions.
My work has been screened at multiple festivals and venues including the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, and the Santiago International Film Festival.
Currently, I am working on a film portrait that depicts the daily life of a Mapuche couple in their ancestral territory, the Wallmapu.
